Are any schools running video gaming leagues? There is interest here at RIT in doing a "Heroes of the Storm" league (a.k.a. "Heroes of the Dorm"), but I have never set up a league like that before. If any of you use the Video Games league template on IMLeagues, or have set up a league like this, your advice would be greatly appreciated.

We have played "Rocket League" the last couple of years and also had some old school (Nintendo, Sega, etc.) consoles set up for folks to play while they were waiting.
Thanks. Did you set it up like a regular league, team vs. team, or did they play on their own time and report the results?
We did for one year with an Xbox 1 and was not very successful. Was not worth the investment.
We are currently running Madden & FIFA tourneys. We set up the league to take student sign ups in teams of two and setup matches bracket style. For now we have been doing single elimination and one day tournaments on multiple systems in order to maximize the tourney and finish in one day.
also we are taking the show on the road because we have 5 campus under our college. A good undertaking but we manage and get students to participate.

We are a school with about 2,000 undergrad students. We have tried single day video game tournaments but the turnout tends to be low. I would say on average we would get 5-10 participants but would often have no shows. I'm sure we all know how troublesome no shows can be when you are planning a tournament. I think over the last several years the video game environment has really changed. I have had many students tell me they would rather play with their friends online. If you already have the systems, it's worth trying but to invest in all the equipment you will need to run one tournament I would say is not worth the hassle. One thing I would say though, if you have a group of students really interested in running this tournament, I would encourage them to help organize it. If you have a group of students really excited about it they may be able to get more students to join in.
We don't have a league, but If you are going to try it I suggest collaborating with Student Life or Union. They usually already have the game systems already. I wanted to run one on our campus and did the planning, but it wasn't in line with what our leadership had in mind so we did not go through with it.
