We have started to see a decline in our Men's A Leagues over the past couple of years. On the flip side we have seen an increase in our Men's B Leagues. Our overall numbers have stayed the same. I was just curious if others have seen this trend? And what have you done to increase your A League numbers? I have some ideas in mind but just want to see what others are doing.

A Leagues and B Leagues

We give sport specific shirts to our champions of our "A" Leagues. We also have sport specific plaques in the building and the A league champions get their team names put on them.

We actually have more "A" league teams this semester than "B" league compared to previous years. I'm not sure if this is the exact reason why, but I changed the league names to Competitive and Recreational.

Sorry, I just saw this today while on imleagues.com. I went away from A and B leagues last spring, and just have "Basketball". Then we split the sport into two playoff brackets where necessary (set a max of 16 teams per bracket), and took the top two teams from each division and placed them in a bracket, and the bottom two teams and placed them in a different bracket. We only allow teams to play up into the top bracket, and do not allow teams the opportunity to play down. So far, I have not received any negative feedback from participants.

Lail,
You might try eliminating the divisions you offer and use ladder scheduling. Divide the teams after the regular season based on their records.

@singhisen I'm working on a similar format, but running it as one big league and then based off of your final standings within the league and broke it based off size for two similar brackets. Based on Win %, Points Scored, Points Allowed and Point Differential with Imleagues letting you determine your ranking criteria. Sometimes the regular season is less competitive but during playoffs it was competitive throughout.

@singhisen This is interesting. Can you clarify? So you have divisions made up of just 4 teams each I'm assuming? Do you do cross-division scheduling somehow? What do you mean by "we only allow teams to play up into the top bracket, and do not allow teams the opportunity to play down"? Do the captains tell you before the season is over that they want to "play up" when playoffs come around?
