Intramural Sports Student Captain Meetings

Hello All From Eastern Shore of MD!

Simple question, Do you/your department conduct Captains meetings prior to the regular seasons of your leagues? Are they beneficial? Have they improved on issues/forfeits?

Let me know! Highly interested!

I have found captain's meeting to be beneficial in the past, but found that a Zoom meetings with the entire roster was more beneficial this year since there were so many additional rules in place. I am considering doing the Zoom meeting again next year to clear up confusion!

We at UNT actually moved away from them like a year or two ago in lieu of participant quizzes whenever someone signs up and joins the team. It is just like a little 3-5 question quiz about the most important policies we want them to know about that sport. We found that this was slightly better because then every person had to complete it and answer the questions instead of trusting that the captains would tell their team the information from the captains meeting.

Here, at SIU, we eliminated our in-person captains' meeting two years ago. Those meetings were not well attended, and it became difficult to staff them as well. We created rules presentations in Google Slides and posted those presentations on the main IMLEAGUES sport pages and embedded them in the participant quizzes for each sport.
